It is one of the announcements from former President Donald Trump that his supporters have been waiting for and he has finally made it.

No, not that one.

But it is game-changing for the world of social media. The 45th President of the United States has announced that his media company, the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), is going to launch his new social media app on President’s Day, The Guardian reported.

Photos show that the app is going to be similar o Twitter in that it is set to have trending topics and the ability to follow other people.

The app will launch 13 months after the former president was permanently banned from Twitter and banned indefinitely from Facebook.

TMTG and Apple did not respond to requests for comment, but a source familiar with the matter confirmed that 21 February is the planned launch date of the app.

The launch is expected to be the first of three stages in TMTG’s development. The second would be a subscription video-on-demand service called TMTG+ with entertainment, news and podcasts, according to the company website. A November investor presentation indicated that TMTG also wants to launch a podcast network.

TMTG is currently valued at $4.3bn based on the stock price of Digital World Acquisition Corp. TMTG agreed in October to merge with the blank-check firm at a valuation of $875m.

Trump supporters and retail investors have snapped up Digital World’s stock, betting that Trump’s popularity with his Republican political base will translate into a commercial runaway success.

In June, Facebook made a decision as regards Trump being allowed to come back to the platform.

Facebook’s vice president of global affairs Nick Clegg issued a blog post announcing a minimum two-year ban for Trump, Politico reported.

“Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr. Trump’s suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols,” he said. “We are suspending his accounts for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7 this year.”

“We are suspending his accounts for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7 this year,” it said.

“We are today announcing new enforcement protocols to be applied in exceptional cases such as this, and we are confirming the time-bound penalty consistent with those protocols which we are applying to Mr. Trump’s accounts,” it said.

But even when Trump comes back the company has announced that he will have to live by special rules made for him., which is significant because it means the ban is not permanent.

“When the suspension is eventually lifted, there will be a strict set of rapidly escalating sanctions that will be triggered if Mr. Trump commits further violations in future, up to and including permanent removal of his pages and accounts,” it said.

“In establishing the two-year sanction for severe violations, we considered the need for it to be long enough to allow a safe period of time after the acts of incitement, to be significant enough to be a deterrent to Mr. Trump and others from committing such severe violations in future, and to be proportionate to the gravity of the violation itself,” it said.

It is of note that the suspension will continue through the 2022 midterm elections where Trump is expected to play a key role for Republicans.

The originally reported plan was for the former president to launch his own social media platform to coincide with the Fourth of July celebrations, The Daily Mail reported.

Biden and Trump Received Millions from Big Firms That Received PPP Loans Meant for Small Businesses

MARK TAPSCOTT
July 24, 2020

Individuals working for big law firms and corporations that received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans meant for small businesses pumped nearly $2 million into former Vice-President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.

President Donald Trump also benefitted from such contributions, counting more than $1.5 million, according to a July 23 analysis of Small Business Administration (SBA) and federal campaign finance data by opensecrets.org.

“Vital Pharmaceuticals, the company behind Bang Energy drink, got a PPP loan worth at least $5 million in early April as the program doled out its first batch of loans. Last year the company gave $250,000 in corporate money to Trump’s preferred super PAC, America First Action,” opensecrets.org said.

The biggest single chunk of Biden’s haul came from individuals associated with a Florida trial lawyer firm.

“Biden is boosted by Morgan & Morgan, a Florida personal injury law firm whose employees gave $437,000 to his campaign. The firm’s founder hosted an extravagant fundraiser for the former vice president during the early days of his White House bid,” opensecrets.org said.

“Morgan & Morgan, which says it employs more than 500 experienced lawyers, pulled in several PPP loans meant for struggling small businesses. Its Tampa location received a loan worth at least $5 million while its Fort Myers and Jacksonville locations each received loans worth at least $2 million,” the opensecrets.org analysis reported.

Two other trial lawyer firms that got PPP loans and provided large contributions to Democrats were singled out by the opensecrets.org analysis.

“Top lawyers at another Texas-based firm, Baron & Budd, held a fundraiser for Biden last year, and the company’s employees gave $250,000 to Democrats. It received a loan worth at least $2 million,” according to the analysis.

“Another PPP loan of at least $350,000 went to New York personal injury law firm Kramer Dillof Livingston & Moore. Late last year, the firm gave $100,000 from its corporate reserves to Unite the Country, the only super PAC supporting Biden’s presidential bid at the time,” the analysis said.

The big contributions by such firms highlight the fact that congressional Democrats are battling Republicans who seek increased personal liability protections for medical professionals and workers caring for victims of the CCP Virus, also known as the novel coronavirus.

Senate Republicans insist such protection must be included in the new economic recovery bill being negotiated this week on Capitol Hill, but Democrats warn that such a provision would be a deal-killer.

Despite Trump receiving less than Biden from the firms getting PPP money, Republican campaign committees got multiple millions of dollars from individuals linked to those businesses.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) tallied slightly more than $5 million, while the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) received more than $2.5 million. A total of $1.75 million went to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).

Other notable contributions spotlighted by the opensecrets.org analysis included money going to groups backing candidates and causes of both major political parties.

“The Center for Popular Democracy contributed $113,000 in nonprofit funds to New Florida Majority, a PAC that supported Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in the Democratic primary,” the analysis said.

“New Orleans transportation company Harvey Gulf International Marine—backed by a loan of more than $5 million—gave $100,000 in corporate funds to Make Louisiana Great Again, a super PAC supporting area Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.),” it said.

The $670 billion PPP program was a Trump initiative for helping Main Street businesses retain as many employees on their payrolls as possible during the national lockdown that began in mid-March and continues today at varying degrees of intensity around the country.

“While many small businesses waited on loans during the program’s rollout, larger companies with access to big banks got loans first,” opensecrets.org said.

“Powerful lobbying firms, hedge funds and real estate companies received aid while tens of thousands of small businesses closed for good.”

Pentagon’s Top Technology Officials Resign

ELLEN MITCHELL
June 23rd, 2020

The Pentagon’s top technology official and his deputy are resigning next month, a Defense Department official confirmed on Tuesday.

Mike Griffin, the Pentagon’s first undersecretary of research and engineering, and his deputy, Lisa Porter, will leave July 10, the official said.

The resignations were first reported by Inside Defense.

Griffin, who took on the role in early 2018, and Porter said in a letter to staff that “a private-sector opportunity has presented itself to us, offering an opportunity we have decided to pursue together,” Defense News reported.

“It has been a pleasure leading this great team over the past few years. We greatly appreciate your hard work, diligence, integrity, and devotion to technical excellence and technical truth in furtherance of the R&E mission,” the two wrote, according to the outlet. “We wish you all the very best.”

Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Wednesday confirmed the resignations and praised Griffin and Porter’s work.

“During their tenures, Dr. Griffin and Dr. Porter advanced critical work on the department’s modernization priorities,” Esper said in a statement. “They leave an office with a legacy of excellence in the research and development of technology that ensures American military advantage on land, at sea, in the air and in space. Mike and Lisa have my sincere thanks for their dedicated service to the department and the nation, and I wish them the very best as they enter this new chapter of their lives.”

The two are the third and fourth officials to announce their resignation in the last week.

Kathryn Wheelbarger, the acting assistant Defense secretary for international security affairs, submitted her resignation on June 17, five days after President Trump pulled her name as the intended nominee to be deputy undersecretary of Defense for intelligence.

And Elaine McCusker, the Pentagon’s acting comptroller who questioned the Trump administration for its withholding of aid to Ukraine last year, submitted her resignation a day earlier after the White House in early March pulled her nomination for the official comptroller role.

Trump Says He Has A Chance ‘To Break The Deep State,’ Teases New Revelations From Declassification

Chuck Ross,
May 27th, 2020

President Donald Trump on Sunday hailed recent disclosures of information regarding government surveillance of the Trump campaign, saying that it has afforded him a chance to “break” the so-called “deep state.”

In an interview with journalist Sharyl Attkisson, Trump suggested that additional information is going to come out about the surveillance efforts.

“Other things are going to come out, too. And a lot of other things are going to come out, but you don’t even need other things,” he said.

“I would like to see it move much faster,” Trump added.

Trump went on to accuse the “deep state” of trying to derail his presidency through the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government.

“If it keeps going the way it’s going, I have a chance to break the deep state,” Trump said.

“It’s a vicious group of people. It’s very bad for our country. And that’s never happened before.”

Trump called former FBI Director James Comey a “dirty cop,” and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe a “bad guy.”

Trump praised Richard Grenell, the acting director of national intelligence, for declassifying and releasing a slew of documents related to investigations of the Trump campaign.

“Richard Grenell is a superstar. He had guts, he had courage to do what he did,” Trump said.

He also said he has high hopes for Texas Rep. John Ratcliffe, who takes over for Grenell on Tuesday.

“We have another superstar going in as you know, John Ratcliffe.”

Earlier this month, Grenell declassified a list of Obama administration officials who requested intelligence reports regarding Michael Flynn.

In April, Grenell declassified footnotes from a Justice Department inspector general’s report which showed that the FBI had evidence in 2017 that Russian intelligence operatives fed disinformation to Christopher Steele, the author of the anti-Trump dossier.

Grenell said Saturday the he is working on declassifying other documents related to the FBI’s investigation of Flynn.

“When you look at what Richard Grenell has done in eight weeks, these people didn’t do anything for two and a half years. They should have been exposing this.”

Trump criticized Dan Coats, who served as director of national intelligence through August 2019.

“Coats, he sat there,” Trump said. “He didn’t do anything.”
